Lunch at Bouchon Bistro

With the weather so dreary and cold in S.F. right now, we thought we’d head up to Yountville recently to spend some time in the sun. First stop: Bouchon!

We love to celebrate special occasions at Bouchon. The Thomas Keller restaurant has always been a favorite, and the location in Yountville is just perfect. There’s a location in NYC and Vegas, but this one is different. It’s peacefully set in downtown Yountville with the best of both worlds - a sleepy, quiet location with the bustle of a desirable stretch of restaurants in the area (The French Laundry is just up the street). Bouchon Bakery is housed in the green building across the dining patio and it’s fun to watch people walk out staring down at the amazing patisserie they’ve just purchased.

What we ate: We both had the Croque Madame and started with the Salade Maraîchère au Chèvre Chaud. We finished our lunch with Chocolate Bouchons - these little things are perhaps one of our most favorite desserts now. We are hooked.

Our recommendations:

  1. Make reservation: Especially with the restaurant only being able to seat outside, you’ll want to make sure you secure a spot.

  2. Choose Your Reservation Time Wisely: Make your reservation for early during the seating window. For lunch, that means at 11am and for dinner, as early as you are comfortable. This way you get to pick your table.

  3. Pick your table: When you arrive, ask for a table (if one is available) that is tucked away or up against the ivy wall. We love sitting on the same side of the table, people watching as crowds line up for the bakery across the way. We sip cocktails and enjoy the view from this vantage point.

  4. Eat the bread. It’s worth it.

  5. Order dessert. Also very worth it. We could not recommend the chocolate bouchons more.
