When we decided to head to Lake Como on a stop between northern and southern Europe, we were so focused on planning the other parts of our trip we didn’t have time to plan or even day dream about this part. We went into it with few expectations.

We fell in love with Lake Como as soon as we set eyes on it - it’s one of those places that is so beautiful. It has an exquisite balance of buildings and nature. We love big European cities, but Lake Como is one of those places you feel like you can take in both architectural and natural beauty all at once. We spent a few nights here and it’s on our list of places we’d like to return.

We spent just a few nights in this magical place but we feel we were able to see a lot. We stayed at Villa Trotti just outside Bellagio and spent time there, Bellagio, and across the lake in Tremezzo. Every single place we went was magical.

Lake Como is full of the most beautiful gardens. This one is one the property of our hotel, Villa Trotti.

We arrived late at night by car so we didn’t get to the see the Lake in all it’s splendor until our first full day there. When we arrived, our hotel made reservations for a late-night dinner for us down the road. Thank goodness we decided to rent a car - without it we wouldn’t have been able easily stay at our hotel, as it was perched on the Lake but a 10 minute drive from Bellagio, where most of the restaurants are. Bellagio was also where we caught the boat over to Tremezzo.
